The South Dakota Coalition for Compassion is comprised of doctors, patients, families, elected officials, current and former law-enforcement, activists, students, and many other people from all walks of life who have come together for common cause of compassion.

The South Dakota Coalition for Compassion, or SDCC, is a partnership between former South Dakotan's for Medical Marijuana, and various other community organizations. We share a common goal of changing state law to be more in line with human decency, and health standards based on reason and science. The Coalition for Compassion is independent from South Dakotan's for Safe Access, or SDSA, who has been active with cannbis reform advocasy for the past decade; The Coalition recognizes SDSA's efforts which consist of sponsoring two different pieces of legislation at the state capitol, as well as placing and campaigning for the 2006 South Dakota Safe Access Act, which was on the ballot as initiated measure 4, and lost by only a slim margin of 4%.

More than a dozen states have enacted some type of legal protection for patients who need medicinal marijuana. In 2002 A Lucas Organization poll found that 64% of South Dakota residents support allowing seriously ill patients to use marijuana if recommended by a doctor. Our neighboring state of Montana passed a law in 2004; one in which we use a model for the SDSAA. This year, several other states are also approaching legislationn or reform for medical marijua

The Coalition for Compassion launched a petition drive in spring of 2009 with the intention of gaining the needed 16,776 signatures to place the South Dakota Safe Access Act on the 2010 ballot.

Our Success depends on committed volunteers and donations from concerned citizens!
